The Dubai Police have recently arrested\na beggar who used a weighing scale to exploit pedestrians for 1 dirham in Al\nMuraqqabat. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The arrest was made within the\n“Begging is a Wrong concept of Compassion\u201d campaign which was launched\nlast March by the General Department of Criminal Investigation (CID) in\ncooperation with Dubai Police stations and strategic partners before the\nbeginning of Ramadan. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Colonel Ahmad Al Adidi, Acting Director\nof Anti-infiltrators at the General Department of Criminal Investigation, said\nthat specialised teams have been formed to combat begging across the emirate\nbefore the beginning of the Holy Month and to monitor places expected to be\nfrequented by beggars. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Col. Al\nAdidi explained that the campaign showed evident success in reducing the number\nof beggars annually, thanks to the strict procedures taken against violators\nand the efforts of the General Department of Criminal Investigation to\neliminate this illegal behaviour. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
“There\nare official and charitable entities and authorities ready to help the needy,\nwhich we, at Dubai Police urge whomever in need of financial aid to turn\nto,” he added. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Begging\nposes a serious threat to the safety and security of our society. We take the\nmatter seriously as it ruins the reputation of the emirate and also affects the\nsecurity as it increases cases of thefts and pickpocketing,” Col. Al Adidi\ncontinued. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
“There\nare people who attempt to justify their illegal behaviour with their financial\ndesperation. However, according to Federal Law No. 9 of 2018 on Anti-begging,\nanyone caught begging in the UAE will be fined AED 5,000 and imprisoned for a\nterm of up to three months. Those operating professional gangs of beggars or\nrecruiting people from outside the country to work as beggars face a jail term\nof not less than six months and a minimum fine of AED 100,000.” Col. Al\nAdidi stressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Dubai Police also asked the public to report beggars to the toll-free number 901 or through the Police Eye service via Dubai Police App, and to report cyber-beggars and suspicious online activities on www.ecrime.ae<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
