As part of Dubai\nPolice\u2019s campaign “Begging is a Wrong concept of Compassion\u201d, Dubai Police\nhas arrested 458 beggars during the holy month, of which 23 were arrested\nduring Eid holiday. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Colonel Ali Salem,\nDirector of the Department of infiltrators at Dubai Police, said that the\nStation joins the campaign’s efforts every year to combat begging in the\nemirate by assigning working teams to operate per an integrated security plan in\ncooperation with the Department of infiltrators and partners to intensify\npatrols in places expected to be frequented by beggars. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Col Salem explained the\ncampaign showed evident success in reducing the number of beggars annually,\nthanks to the strict procedures taken against violators and the efforts of the\nGeneral Department of Criminal Investigation to eliminate the phenomenon from the\nsociety. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
“There are\nofficial and charitable entities and authorities that are ready to help the\nneedy, which we, at Dubai Police urged whomever in need of financial aids to\nturn to,” he added. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Begging poses a\nserious threat to the safety and security of our society. we take the matter\nseriously as it ruins the reputation of the emirate and also affects the\nsecurity as it increases cases of thefts and pickpocketing,” Director of\nthe Department of infiltrators continued. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
“There are\npeople who attempt to justify their illegal behaviour with their financial\ndesperation, however, according to Federal Law No. 9 of 2018 on Anti-begging,\nanyone caught begging in the UAE will be fined AED 5,000 and imprisoned for a\nterm up to three months. Those operating professional gangs of beggars or\nrecruiting people from outside the country to work as beggars face a jail term\nof not less than six months and a minimum fine of AED 100,000.” Col Salem stressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
