Dubai\nCulture and Arts Authority announced that it will grant cultural visas to 1,000\ncreators and artists from across the world in the upcoming phase. The first initiative\nof its kind in the world, the cultural visa launched in 2019 by His Highness\nSheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the\nUAE and Ruler of Dubai, seeks to position the emirate as a global centre for\nculture, an incubator for creativity and a hub for talent. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
This\nmove seeks to maximise the participation of creators, writers and artists in the\nemirate\u2019s knowledge-based fields and raise the role of Dubai\u2019s cultural and\ncreative sectors in its development process. This objective is aligned with the\nUAE\u2019s strategy to create a harmonious and sustainable society that attracts outstanding\nArab and international talent. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Applications\nfrom 46 nationalities<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Since\nthe announcement of the Cultural Visa, Dubai Culture received 261 cultural visa\napplications from individuals hailing from 46 nations. A total of 120 applicants\nhave met the required and optional criteria. A majority of these applicants have been issued visas while\nthe remaining are currently under process. <\/p>\n\n\n\n A home\nfor creative talent<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n HE\nHala Badri, Director-General of Dubai Culture, said:<\/strong> \u201cDubai provides a stimulating and supportive\nenvironment for creativity and creators. The decision to grant intellectuals,\ncreators and talented individuals a cultural visa enhances the emirate\u2019s\nposition as a global centre for culture, an incubator for creativity, a\nthriving hub for talent, and a preferred cultural destination. Dubai\u2019s contributions have helped raise\nthe UAE\u2019s position in the global cultural landscape by attracting exceptional writers, artists and creators.\nEstablishing Dubai as a hub for outstanding Arab and international creative talent\nis part of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid\u2019s endeavour to develop the cultural\neconomy and creative industries; attract, retain and empower talent; and give\nthem opportunities to prosper and participate in the UAE\u2019s development. It is\nalso aligned with the goals and pillars of the 2020-2025 Dubai Culture\nStrategy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Stable\nbase for creatives<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Badri\nadded: \u201cThe long-term cultural visa provides talented people with a stable base\nin Dubai and contributes to enhancing the emirate\u2019s growth by stimulating the\ncreative economy. This will result in creating more jobs in the sector,\nespecially as Dubai has a strong cultural foundation and diverse creative\nsectors that offer attractive opportunities to intellectuals and creative\npeople. Enabling more eligible individuals to receive this visa has always been\npart of this pioneering initiative\u2019s strategic plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Cooperation<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Dubai\nCulture signed an agreement with the General Directorate of Residency and\nForeigners Affairs to establish cooperation in issuing cultural visas for\ninvestors, entrepreneurs and those with specialised talent, in accordance with\nthe highest standards<\/p>\n\n\n\n HE\nMajor General Mohamed Ahmed Al Marri, Director General of the General\nDirectorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai, said: the UAE and\nDubai are destinations that welcome talented people seeking to achieve their\ndreams, without discrimination. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThe decision to grant long-term cultural visas to elite\nintellectuals, creatives and talented people from across the world will consolidate the UAE’s\nreputation as a global hub for culture and creativity, \u201d he added. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cDubai\noffers a high quality lifestyle and a vibrant cultural environment that have made\nit a preferred city to live and work. Attracting intellectuals and creatives\nwill contribute to the country\u2019s economic growth and boost Dubai’s profile as a\nglobal destination,\u201d Al Marri said. GDRFA Dubai is working in cooperation with\nDubai Culture to facilitate the issuance of cultural visa, in accordance with official\ncriteria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The\nlong-term cultural visa is granted for 10 years to accomplished creative talent\nin the fields of literature, culture, fine arts, performing arts, and design,\nas well as those in the heritage, history and knowledge-related sectors as well\nas intellectual and creative industries. Applications are accepted if they meet\nterms and conditions and key criteria related to years of residency in the\ncountry, record of knowledge-related and creative achievements, and willingness\nto meet optional conditions and pledges for each category, including a pledge\nto contribute 36 hours of service to the community in the UAE in creative or\nartistic capacities, among others. This will allow the visa holders to\nautomatically renew their visas without an Emirati sponsor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Incubator\nfor creativity<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Dubai\nhas a modern infrastructure and strong assets in the cultural sector that\nenable it to provide a productive ecosystem for intellectuals and creators from\nall over the world.
